DESCENT

8845 Metres

So I've jumped. I'm here in the air, 3 metres from the peak- where no one has ever been before.
You don't believe me, do you ? I don't either. Not anymore.
My limbs flail around with a life of their own.
The air is very thin and the cold bites my bones.
AND I FALL......

6000 Metres

The blood rushes into my head. The wind whips me in my cold and numb face.
I can't feel my nose. But I'm thankful. It helps me to forget the pain I shortly stand to face.
I descend through the clouds, falling very fast.
It took me a lifetime to get up there, why did I quit so fast ?
AND I FALL.......

3000 Metres

As the air gets warmer, I feel strangely alive.
I cry out f or help, repentant for being so naive.
AND I FALL.....

900, 800, 700 and counting......

As the ground approaches, I reminisce about my elusive Everest peak.
Its strange how we soothe ourselves with our dreams in times of defeat.

What I now face is the prospect of living my remaining seconds in regret.
The seconds pass by as do the metres , in haste.
AND I FALL......

5,4,3,2,1,.....0

As my skull cracks, I'd like to tell you a thing before I go.
Don't ever quit. You're closer than you know to the peak, when you decide to let go.
